  • Midnight Run - St. Louis to Sacramento by Ed Moore

The midnight run from St. Louis, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, must have been an uncomfortable experience – the dust, bumpy ride, and the ever-present possibility of being held up by outlaws or Indians.

  • Dog Days Of Summer by Peggy Sue Harrington

[Double Exposure Project #1 – Oregon and San Diego Exposed] This is one of the images produced through double exposing a roll of film with my amazingly talented, generous, and dear friend Matt Adamik. This was our first attempt at working with this process and I am in love with every image. Matt lives in Oregon and I live in San Diego. He shot the roll first, mailed it to me, and I shot over top his photos. Neither of us knew what the other was shooting. The results are astounding and breathtaking. And fun! We will be collaborating on many more double exposure projects in the very near future. A wonderful way to bring Oregon and San Diego together, as well as the styles and friendships of two photographers. I am absolutely in love with this type of photography! I highly recommend it for everyone. Thank you Matt for everything! Goggles Down! /

  • Queen Mary by Anne-Marie Bokslag

Also available as T-Shirt RMS Queen Mary is an ocean liner that sailed the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line (then Cunard White Star Line). Built by John Brown and Company, Clydebank, Scotland, she was designed to be the first of Cunard’s planned two-ship weekly express service from Southampton to Cherbourg to New York, in answer to the mainland European superliners of the late 1920s and early 1930s. After their release from World War II troop transport duties, Queen Mary and her running mate RMS Queen Elizabeth commenced this two-ship service and continued it for two decades until Queen Mary’s retirement in 1967. The ship is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is permanently berthed in Long Beach, California serving as a museum ship and hotel. The Queen Mary celebrated the 70th anniversary of her launch in both Clydebank and in Long Beach during 2004, and the 70th anniversary of her maiden voyage in 2006. There was already a Clyde turbine steamer named Queen Mary, so Cunard White Star reached agreement with the owners that the existing steamer would be renamed TS Queen Mary II, and in 1934 the new liner was launched by Queen Mary as RMS Queen Mary. The first incident in what was to be an eventful career occurred just after the naming ceremony. On her way down the slipway, the Queen Mary began increase her speed towards the water and she almost overshot her projected stopping point in the Clyde racing onwards towards the opposite bank before the drag chains took full effect. After her retirement in 1967, she steamed to Long Beach, California, where she is permanently moored as a tourist attraction. From 1983 to 1993, the Queen Mary was accompanied by Howard Hughes’ Spruce Goose, which was located in a large dome nearby (the dome is now used by Carnival Cruise Lines as a ship terminal, and formerly as a soundstage). Long Beach did not buy the Queen Mary to preserve her as an ocean liner. Since they started drilling for oil in Long Beach Harbor, some of the revenue had been set aside in the “Tidelands Oil Fund.” Some of this money was allocated in 1958 for the future purchase of a maritime museum for Long Beach. The Queen Mary was purchased to be the iconic host for this museum. Ghosts have been reported on board only after she reached California. Many areas are rumored to be haunted. Reports of hearing little children crying in the nursery room, actually used as the third-class playroom, and a mysterious splash noise in the drained first-class swimming pool are cited. In 1966, 18-year-old fireman John Pedder was crushed by a watertight door in the engine room during a drill, and his ghost is said to haunt the ship. The Queen Mary operates daily paranormal themed tours, some of which have theatrics applied for dramatic effect. Guests may also pay for private paranormal investigations, and are encouraged to document their paranormal experiences, if any. The ship also maintains a haunted maze and expands to multiple mazes during Halloween. • eleven-thirteen, New Year's Eve by Lenny La Rue, IPA

47 minutes before 2009 came to California, I was onstage and being the typical clown I usually am while performing. And clowning resulted in this shot of my left hand being busy and “on task” while my right hand goes its own way – usually getting me into trouble. Sometimes it’s the other way around if I’m doing something that requires dexterity my left hand has long forgotten but that’s pretty dangerous with a right hand only DSLR. While I can’t actually drop the Nikon to the floor, I CAN accidentally let it fall into my twice-broken left ribs and that wouldn’t end well at all. :-) Funny, but when you pick up a camera, some people crowd the stage and some people disappear quickly. In a bar with a person who may not be your significant other, the latter may be prudent. But I rarely shoot the audience these days unless I’m shooting them as a backdrop for my band or another one. Cheaters and would-be cheaters ‘making a move’ have little to fear from the one handed keyboardist who’s either shooting with his left hand (for right hand articulated keyboard solos) or shooting with his correct hand (while just holding down a rhythm or soloing gently and melodically). Either way I can get something like this shot and show you a true “view from the stage”. ;-) The CSI results / ____________ / Nikon D80 / Lens: 18-55 Nikkor wide angle “kit” lens / Aperture: 3.5 / Shutter: 1/60 / ISO: 200 / Mode: Manual / Metering: Pattern / Offset: 0 / Focal length: 18mm / Flash intensity: 75% / Hand used: Right / Editing program: Corel PaintShop Pro XI (for cropping, resizing and “tanning” my hand where the flash turned me Caucasian) / Band: Buck Love & The Humperheads / Event: New Year’s Eve Party / Kiss at midnight: none / Kiss after midnight: one but I don’t know to whom it was from / Keyboard: Alesis (QuadraSynth) QS 7.1 / Amplification: Peavey stereo 500 watt (250 per channel run in mono) / Speakers: Acoustic 4-12’s / Volume: deafening / Location: Stone Hall of the Miner’s Foundry, Nevada City, CA / Temperature: (inside) toasty at around 75 degrees F; (outside) freezing around 32 degrees F. / Libations: Are you kidding??? • We Have Lift Off by Visual Inspirations

This was taken straight from my Canon Power shot S3 IS no adjustment on the image or special filters used. Straight up. The ISO was 100 and the mode was AV which made the shutter speed slower. / This balloon actually landed in our front yard in Rancho Santa Fe, CA and tried to take off to get out and they couldn’t.. needless to say, when they land, they open a bottle of Champaine and pass the bottle and we just joined them and had a ball!! The owner of the balloon gave us two free rides for landing in our yard! It was the largest hot air ballon ever made. It held 21 people. You see, We were having dinner and I said to Tony there is a balloon landing in the yard and he laughed and said.. “yeah right!” and we look out the door and sure enough, the pilot said “Are we too late for dinner?” and we laughed and drank Champaine for about 3 hours until they realized they couldn’t get out until the morning, so they came back. They also didn’t realize that we just caught a rattle snake about 5 feet from where they lander earlier that day, so no one got out of the balloon after I told them…lol /
