Sorry, Alyson, I have spent a lot of years around people like this and know them intimately.
Your mood and characterisation are good; the man has a worry I can see that, but technically there are too many of your strokes out of place. The facial anatomy is not quite right.
It is very hard to know whether he has suffered a stroke, or whether his left jaw is deformed, but the left cheekbone and by corollary that side of his face is distorted.
Perhaps somebody punched him there, or a bee stung more probably, making that side of his face odd.
Anyway, it does not fit quite right. I don’t know about Gadiya, but people out back looking at the image would be thinking that way.
Something to think about.

I doubt that Alyson was trying to obtain a perfect anatomically correct image of this man, if that were the case she would have taken a photo of him an posted it here..don’t you think?? She is a talented artist and this is a very nice work. I had parents who discouraged me from art by telling me it was not “good enough”etc etc….it takes guts to display your work out in public. I think you were way off in your remarks about this piece.

A love this illustration. The background gives an illusion of an old parchment and that it was created decades ago. The expression and details are remarkable, and having his hair going out of the “bG” adds to sense of depth. An instant favorite for me.
