2 x 2
This is my husband and his sister in the rowing boat.
This is a rework of my shot ‘1, 2, 3’. I recently had some work constructively reviewed and it was suggested that I crop down the trees at the back and I only have 2 of the waterfowl in the front swimming past, instead of 3 of them. This was to give a sense of balance between one fowl and the boat. Anyway, I took the suggestions on board and altered the shot to produce this one. See what you think, and please let me know whether you prefer this one or the original. Many thanks for taking a peek.
This was taken at Oakbank, Adelaide Hills, South Australia, Australia in the early morning.

Psychic! thought that myself, ‘need to lose the oil drum’ or whatever it was, but didn’t like to be critical. Like this even more now, it really is the biz. Early morning ROW! had a few of them over the years. Are they really having a row? ‘Keep pulling you old bag I’m late for work! where did you get to last night, you smell like a brewery! type row? They seem quite calm to me. :)
Elana Bailey in reply to John Brotheridge’s comment
John, yes you were confusing it with ‘Serenity’ but that’s ok. I knew you’d think that it was a ROW (like a fight) not as in row boat. That is actually my husband and his younger sister (over from the UK) in the boat and they were getting on very well. Turns out she was better at rowing than him. Cheers very much.
John Brotheridge
oops, I was getting this mixed up with your ‘Serenity’ shot re. the oil drum. Had they stopped rowing then? duh! Please delete at will.
Ramace
Elana i am only a learner capital “L”. But i know i like this one it appeals like a painting the filtereing light turns the Shot into a watercolur and then the bright yellow of the boat throw’s out light. anyway’s i like it
Tony ~:)
Elana Bailey in reply to Ramace’s comment
Tony, we are all here to learn and that’s what I’m trying to do too. Many thanks very much for your kind words.
Phil Thomson IPA
Look great, Elana !! A whole lot better cropped, as it focuses more on the couple in the boat and creates a more romantic atmosphere for the image !! Well Done !!
Elana Bailey in reply to Phil Thomson IPA’s comment
Phil, I agree wholeheartedly with you. Many thanks indeed.
Daryl Gordon
yep I agree with john I like this a lot better than the shot that had the drum in it keep up the good work
Elana Bailey in reply to Daryl Gordon’s comment
Many thanks indeed.
BigD
Elana, I like the closer view of the boat here.
Elana Bailey in reply to BigD’s comment
Big D, me too. Many thanks indeed.
Lindsay Knowles
Fantastic Elana
Elana Bailey in reply to Lindsay Knowles’s comment
Many thanks Lindsay.
Janice Windle
Love this Elana! You are so good at capturing a moment of serenity. Like John, I wondered about the title for a moment! But this is definitely not a social realist canvas by Sickert! Beautiful!
Elana Bailey in reply to Janice Windle’s comment
Janice, many thanks very much and for adding this one to your favs. I think I might change the title. It is too misleading. Cheers.
Steve Chapple
Yep, this is good, an image that speaks!
Elana Bailey in reply to Steve Chapple’s comment
Stephen, that is hard to do, so many thanks.
Andy Evans
Very sedate image Elana, love the composition with the ducks in the FG

Helene Kippert
Beautiful colours and atmosphere here – well done!
Elana Bailey in reply to Helene Kippert’s comment
Many thanks for stopping by. It is much appreciated.
Andrew Leighton
Just looked at the original and I think this is much better. The two birds in the foreground add enough depth without being distracting. Nice work :)
Elana Bailey in reply to Andrew Leighton’s comment
Andrew, I think that I agree with you. Many thanks for taking the time to view my work.
Tania Rose
lovely. I haven’t seen your original, but your description suggests there was a lot going on. The thing which struck me about this pic was the calm, quite serenity, with little going on except an incredible amount of stillness. Mmmm, fishing….........
Elana Bailey in reply to Tania Rose’s comment
Tania, so well put. Many thanks indeed.
AnaCBStudio

Elana Bailey in reply to aphoto4you’s comment
Many thanks for adding this one (and Autumn Hues) to your favs. Cheers very much.
Glenn Tuazon
Good one.. I see where your 2×2 comes in. Waiting for the other duck to catch up can be seen with the trail of water. When the ducks get together… they too will be seen whole.
Elana Bailey in reply to Glenn Tuazon’s comment
Glenn, many thanks and glad you understand the title. Cheers very much.
bidkev
I like this a lot. It really conveys a cold, peaceful, early morning atmosphere

Selina Jackson
so.. took a look and like them both but I do prefer this one. That is a personal preference and your art is yours and is wonderful – do what someone once told me – ‘feel” your art. hope all that makes sense.
Elana Bailey in reply to Selina Jackson’s comment
I prefer this one too, Selina. Many thanks and it all makes sense. Cheers Elana.
