Jif Skippy and Nutella
“Peanut” was, at of the time of this image, still too small to venture from the tree.

Thanks for the invite Nic! I hope this can be considered Urban – it was taken in cottage country.

Leslie Battjes
Nope, Dennis, you’ve only got that partly right…this is great! It’s adorable, not seen often, and well shot…your clarity here is awesome, Jan! :) although I totally agree on the names…LOL!
Jan Piller in reply to Leslie Battjes’s comment
Thanks Les – I would have liked to have gotten all four of them but the smallest one wasn’t quite venturing into the open before we had to leave to come home. But it was great watching them grow over the course of two weeks. Jif was the strongest and most curious and was out long before the others.
Nikki Trexel

So cute and quick , i’m guessing
Lenny La Rue, IPA
This is the best squirrel shot I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing! There are just too many variations within a single species to tell what these guys are but they are just dropdead cute! The newborns around here I call ‘jets’ because of their incredible speed and playfulness.
OK details! Camera type, len(es), distance from the critters, settings, etc. If I get this shot I sure don’t want to miss it!!!!
Jan Piller in reply to Lenny La Rue, IPA’s comment
hehehe – thanks Lenny – I shoot with a Rebel xt – digital Canon zoom 200 mm. Yah – they’re quick little things! These are red squirrels.
jerry alcantara
wonderful shot..i love this one

Jessie Leavitt
hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha this one is even better!!!!=] wow.. howd you get so close??? they your pets?
Jan Piller in reply to Jessie Leavitt’s comment
Nope they’re wild – had to sit real still for a long time before all three would come out. One of them was pretty brave though and pretty curious about my camera clicking away! There was 4 babies all together but I couldn’t get a shot of the 4th one. Too small to come out I guess – his name was “Peanut”.
Jan Piller in reply to Jessie Leavitt’s comment
There’s another red squirrel on page 2 of my folio – holding a flower.
Jessie Leavitt
thats so funny… did you name them???
Jan Piller in reply to Jessie Leavitt’s comment
A friend of mine gave them all their names – he’s kinda hooked on Peanut Butter.
Jessie Leavitt
I’ll check that out 2=]
Jessie Leavitt
hahhahahaha thats really funny
John Hooton
This is a cracker – did you ask them to smile or did they just do it spontaneously? They could be auditioning for Disney. :-))
Jan Piller in reply to John Hooton’s comment
hahaha – yah – three little hams. There was 4 of them in the nest but I never did get a shot of the 4 of them together – the last one was still too timid to come out.

Hi Jan, no frost here yet. You must have been lucky…. :o
I think three in the shot is actually better than 4..more balanced, odd numbers work better. So cool that you were able to witness all 4 however. this is such a great shot!
