Solandra maxima or Chalice Vine belongs to a genus of woody evergreen scrambling climbers. This giant climber originated from Mexico-Columbia-Venezuela area, it can grow to 9m with yellow flowers which are 25cm across with a deep purple stripe down the centre of each petal. Flowers in spring and tolerates dry conditions and salt spray

    These are the only ones I have ever seen and they were in a street in South Yarra Victoria.
