Poulnabrone dolmen is a 5,000 year old portal tomb in the limestone Burren area of County Clare, Ireland. The dolmen consists of a massive flat capstone supported on several upright pillars, and would originally have been covered by a mound of earth. Archeological excavations found several traces of human remains at the burial site, which now stands as a stark reminder of an ancient civilisation. Looking back through the mists of time, who knows what ancient religious rites took place at this barren and windswept scene? Winner of the Heritage in Stone group challenge Stone Circles and Standing Stones.

Petrol stop – Cameron, Arizona

Initially, this piece was about burying dreams. What happens when there’s nothing left but to let go of everything, abandon hope, and walk away to let God do what he pleases… 3 years later, still struggling, I found that a branch had in fact, taken root, with a stubborn leaf defiant against the barren land and winter sky… This piece took 3 years for me to complete. (Its not for sale because, due to size, I can’t get a reproduction that is good enough quality.) My faith holds as resolutely (and defiantly in the face of circumstances) as the leaf. Collage and acrylic ink. The branch is real. The leaf I made. (For the works on paper group: I made this on stretched butcher paper. I used that paper because it was brown and because I could actually stretch it over stretcher bars. I haven’t had much luck doing that with thicker papers. There are also countless papers collaged into the piece. The leaf is made entirely of papers—tissue papers and others.)

Oil // One will count a tree or two, and perhaps a bird in flight. Then, at last, we shall see the beginnings of a rainbow upon a barren land. /

This was taken in a full on blizzard. This tree was about as far as I could see. / I had to use a slow shutter speed to avoid getting blurs from the snow. It only took a few seconds to take this, but I still had snow in my viewfinder, and it was as cold as it looks.

I received a timely reminder today from a very dear friend to “come out and play” so here I am =) I worked on the colour version of this for so long that I completely lost any objectivity I may have once had, even after walking away from it for days and coming back to it. I love the black and white, but the colour version has a totally different feel, a really intense feel… I can’t really explain it. I may upload that one too, just to get some feedback on the both of them side by side. Hello my friend, we meet again / It’s been awhile, where should we begin? / Feels like forever / Within my heart are memories / Of perfect love that you gave to me / Oh, I remember When you are with me, I’m free / I’m careless, I believe / Above all the others we’ll fly / This brings tears to my eyes / My sacrifice We’ve seen our share of ups and downs / Oh how quickly life can turn around / In an instant / It feels so good to reunite / Within yourself and within your mind / Let’s find peace there When you are with me, I’m free / I’m careless, I believe / Above all the others we’ll fly / This brings tears to my eyes / My sacrifice I just want to say hello again / I just want to say hello again When you are with me I’m free / I’m careless, I believe / Above all the others we’ll fly / This brings tears to my eyes / Cause when you are with me I am free / I’m careless, I believe / Above all the others we’ll fly / This brings tears to my eyes / My sacrifice, My sacrifice I just want to say hello again / I just want to say hello again My sacrifice.
