I finally got to paint this from my digital manipulation, Don’t Give Up Searching . I’m so pleased with the result. I used a few different textures and oil paint and made the eye brown rather then blue so that the image was unified in pallet to suit a college project so that I could paint this particular piece without abandoning duty.

This child watched through a broken window as we worked inside. It’s times like this when the natural, uncontrived symbolism of circumstance just presents itself to you and all you have to do is click. There was not pretence, no staging, no crap. Just reality. It still engages me now. Look at his eyes. What is he thinking? He’s aching. He is full on aching. How can I help them more, how can I help them more, how can I help them more… Please give if you can or pass it on to someone else. That’s giving too. All proceeds to charity. NOW AVAILABLE AS A CHRISTMAS CARD! /

On the 12th day of May 2008 I witnessed (along with thousands of others) a perfect circle in the form of a rainbow around the sun at about noon-time at a beautiful place in the Philippines. Completely perplexed, stunned and amazed at this extraordinary and divine sight, I HAD to create this artwork. Im not sure where you were or what you were doing at this same moment of time but I guess this is all we have. Small pigments of time all squeezed together. And if we’re blessed enough, we get moments like these and realise even for a second the gravity of God’s love. There were no photo’s taken at the time and all I had available to me was the memory of this moment… The moment my heart burned. Print available. / Vector digital art created in illustrator.

Elephants cry, play, have incredible memories, and laugh! / Elephants are sensitive fellow animals where if a baby complains, the entire family will rumble and go over to touch and caress it. Elephants have greeting ceremonies when a friend that has been away for some time returns to the group. Elephants grieve at a loss of a stillborn baby, a family member, and in many cases other elephants. Elephants don’t drink with their trunks, but use them as “tools” to drink with. This is accomplished by filling the trunk with water and then using it as a hose to pour it into the elephant’s mouth. About Elephants You’ve heard the phrase an elephant never forgets? Well, here’s another example of the intelligence of these gentle giants. The elephant in this video, who was rescued from abusive treatment in Burma, actually paints a beautiful self-portrait! Watch him paint How can this be? Well, elephants are one of the most intelligent animals in the world. They have highly developed brains, with traits similar to humans, apes and dolphins. In fact, even though this elephant may have been trained to paint pictures, elephants are known to display traits of self-awareness. For instance, if an elephant sees its image in a mirror, it may try to rub a smudge of dirt off its face. Elephants are also known to grieve, use tools, show a sense of humor, and also share in joyful events, such as gathering to greet a newborn. Simply amazing! It was just a moment, / but we could not foresee / that our time together here / would be so brief. It was not long enough. / How were we to see? / We could not have even known it / that you were stepping into eternity. It was just a moment. / We had no way of knowing, / you were not going / to stay here with me. Now, sometimes just before the dawn, / I think I actually can see / you turning in my direction / saying, “Come on! Catch up with me!” But I know I must be content / with the time you shared with me. / For I’ll always know that / our romance will always be. / / If even for a moment / we were in love and shared it. / It will last forever in my mind / and I’ll see you again some day. This work was inspired by the poem Just before the dawn of two lives shared for just a moment and the memories that are left behind by separation. When we have lost someone, sometimes we can almost see them in the brief hours just before the dawn. Our thoughts of them and memories seem the strongest when we are alone. In our longings to hold them one more time, we reach out in the depths of dreams touching them at least in the hidden recesses of our mind. “If you can’t stand the pain, / then come in from the rain,” / that’s what I heard him say, / but I didn’t know it’s meaning. I got lost along the way, / somewhere between tomorrow and yesterday. / And his words echoed in my brain, / but I still didn’t know the meaning. / / I thought I saw him today, / but it was just a memory of his face, / And then a stranger walked away. / It was then I realized his meaning. I felt the rain upon my face / washing the pain away… / Now my heart could mend again, / when I understood the meaning. My heart and mind washed clean, / I let him fade away… / He wasn’t worth the pain / the answer now was clear…that’s the meaning. © amari I wrote this poem many years ago after losing someone I loved dearly who did not return that love. I found I could grow through it and recover. It taught me the meaning of the mental cleansing and the metaphorical healing of the spiritual rain that gives us new beginnings and lets us wash away the pain. I wonder if there’s a Heaven / Do the beautiful winged angels fly / Above the woods and sunlit gardens / Of their Utopia in the sky And sing with the larks in the morning / Their carols of love and of joy / Long years ago I dreamt such things of great beauty / when I was an innocent boy Back then I was nearer to Heaven / Far nearer than I am today / Since I have lost the innocence of childhood / Heaven from me seems much further away I wonder if there is a Heaven / Do birds sing on the blossoming trees / And do the rivers from their homes in the mountains / Sing their way to the Heavenly seas.
