  • Quiet Barn
    by Karri Klawiter

    US$3.42–US$91.20

When I first came to Redbubble, I only had a couple pieces to post. I always reduced the size of my photos before editing them(making them too small for here), just didn’t have a reason to keep them full size until Redbubble. Anyways, I threw this pic up, just so I had more than 2 posted. I didn’t really even like it. The original shot’s exposure was all kinds of screwed up. I edited so much, I was just plain sick of it. But like I said, it was a filler pic. I sooo did not expect the amount of attention it received, much less that it sold. I’ve actually grown to really like it too. So I thought I’d share this, and the original shot with everyone. So here it is: This piece was my very first sold piece. It was also chosen for the Featured Art Page (before group featuring), featured in A Photographer’s Craft group, and was a finalist in the May US Scenic Photo Contest. Thank You!! Part of my childhood was spent growing up near the Rosebud Reservation north of Valentine, Nebraska. Over the last couple of months RedBubble has been voluntarily paying all the Value Added Tax (VAT) for orders shipped to the UK (the orders are shipped from the US and Australia). The alternative was that the courier company would demand extra money (i.e. the VAT) at delivery – and we thought that was a pretty awful customer experience so we told the courier company that we’d pay the VAT on your behalf. Anyway, RedBubble has now got an arrangement with the British government to collect and pay the VAT to HMRC. What does this mean? Well from this Thursday’s release all your purchases on RedBubble will include VAT (previously they have been VAT free). For British folks only prices on RedBubble will rise on Thursday. So you’ve got two more days to buy buy buy before the British government joins the party. I wish we didn’t have to pay tax … but it does seem to be the way of the world … - Peter P.S. Thursday’s release will be about 2 a.m. London time. [Edit on 17 April] P.P.S. This week’s release was delayed as a few things weren’t quite ready. We’ll now be releasing the VAT changes next Wednesday.

  • TITLE OF ARTWORK: / SPOOKY OWL ARTWORK CREATED ON: Paper APPROXIMATE SIZE: 8.5”x11” inches. MATERIALS USED: Acrylics, Watercolors , White-Out Pen , Markers. Signed by the artist and completed in January 2007. ABOUT THIS: Up in the trees in a dark winters day. The sun is setting and the cold wind is blowing. It starts to snow and you hear the empty echo of where you are. The snow is creating a heavy fog. You can not see. You stumble around trying to move through the fog and snow but you fall victim to the harsh conditions. You suddenly fall paralyzed on the cold hard ground. In your last moments you hear wings flap and the loud screech of an owl.

  • I’ve seen what onions can do to people. Do you know they laugh at you behind your back while you’re crying? Pure evil. Nice in stir-frys though.

  • I AM NOT AN ARTIST I AM JUST A MAN WHO PAINTS.L.S.LOWRY).... I have been painting as an amateur artist on and off for many years.I have over the years developed a very unusual use of colour and content, which I now know from experience appeal to many people, Including individual collectors and dealers. Newcastle upon Tyne England has been a hotbed of heavy Industry since the beginning of the industrial revolution, most of which has now gone forever. A lot of my paintings are recollections of youthful images of the period, late 1940s and 1950s. • Days Of Old
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$4.42–US$117.80

I enjoy photographing the foggy autumn mornings. I also dabble some with my family’s genealogy. I find it interesting to see how my forefathers lived. This Photo is a combination of the two interests. I think the times past is important and should be preserved. / This is Mingus Mill located on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.It is one of the many historic structures preserved by the Park Services. It was built in 1886.It is one of two operating grist mills in the GSMNP.These mills were a vital part of the communities of that era.The people of that era could grow there grain but still needed to have it ground so they could have there day to day bread. / I feel it’s important to call peoples attention to structures like this. They may then have a better understanding of those wishing support to help preserve them.So our grandchildren can see the struggles of how we became a nation

  • Golden Morn II
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$4.56–US$121.60

Early Appalachian life must have been filled with golden mornings. Wonder how often they would pause from their chores, and just drink in the glorious light filtering through the fog. Stopped and gave thanks to God for his blessings and felt at awe with his creation. Wonder how often they knew they had found their pot of gold. Not in a monetary sense, but in the riches of life. They struggled from day to day but how often did they rejoice at what they were blessed with. The coolness of the mist upon their face. The warmth of the sun as it forged its way through the fog. The sounds of nature as she too is awakening to greet the morn. Wonder how rich they may have felt seeing the warm glow softly lighting the fruits of their labor. You too can feel this. You too can feel awakened and renewed with the dawn, if only willing to experience it. Visit and help preserve that which we are blessed with.……Image taken at the Mountain Farm Museum, GSMNP

  • Real People
    by Michael J Armijo

    US$5.70–US$152.00

I got so excited when I saw this dynamic duo seated in the downstairs lobby area of the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. They had such character and now I can imagine their stories in my mind. He’s a former professor of philosophy and they had once had an affair when she was a visiting student from Portugal back in the 1950s. Now they’re just friends and they spend every Thursday afternoon at the Museum. OR…maybe you can come up with a more inventive scenario. :)

    US$4.42–US$117.80

B&W of Carter Shields cabin located in the Cades Cove area of the Smoky Mountains

  • John Oliver Place IV
    by Gary L. Suddath

    US$4.50–US$120.08

Sepia Toned of a previous…Morning sun filters through the trees at John Olivers Cabin with a few dogwoods in the background…..The Oliver’s bought land in the Cove in 1826 and this cabin site remained in the family until the Park was established. The house is typical of many found on the eastern frontier in the mid-1850s, and reflects the skills and techniques brought into the mountains by descendants of British and European immigrants…..Split-rail fences require much more timber than other types of fences, and so are not common in areas where wood is scarce or expensive. However, they are very simple in their construction, and can be assembled with few tools even on hard or rocky ground. They also can be built without using any nails or other hardware; such hardware was often scarce in frontier locations. These fences are sometimes refered to as Worm Fence due to the back and forth placements…This cabin is located on the Cades Cove Loop Road, in the Great Smoky Mountain N.P.

  • Constructed in 1866 by Elijah Oliver. He was the son of John Oliver and born in the cove in 1824. His original farm was destroyed during the U.S. Civil War by Confederate marauders. This cabin is considered a dog-trot cabin sence it has a breezeway between the main house and kitchen.People in the cove didn’t turn away strangers who may need food or a place to spend the night. The closed in portion of the front porch was a “stranger room” Elijah built for this reason. This cabin is located a short hike from the Cades Cove Loop Road in the Great Smoky Mountain NP

folk – information provided by wikipedia:

Folk art describes a wide range of objects that reflect the craft traditions and traditional social values of various social groups. Folk art is generally produced by people who have little or no academic artistic training, nor a desire to emulate "fine art", and use established techniques and styles of a particular region or culture. Along with painting, sculpture, and other decorative art forms, some also consider utilitarian objects such as tools and costume as folk art. Antique folk art is distinguished from traditional art in that while it is collected today based mostly on its artistic merit; it was never intended as a category to be art for art’s sake. Examples include: weathervanes, old store signs and carved figures, itinerant portraits, carousel horses, fire buckets, painted game boards, cast iron doorstops and many other similar lines of highly collectible "whimsical" antiques.
