©2007-2008 Aimee Stewart, Foxfires – please see my CC Terms of Use before considering using this image for any personal or commercial use http://foxfires.deviantart.com/journal/15905899/ / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- Artist’s Notes: I’ve had this picture in my mind for quite awhile. As a child, my treasured stuffed animal (as all children tend to have) was a little squirrel who went on every kind of adventure with me, and my favorite story was about a lil’ squirrel named “Miss Suzy” – written by Miriam Young, and illustrated by Arnold Lobel. I love the thought of the tiny leaf-boat capturing the attention of the denizens of the pond as it passes by en route to a wonderous place.

  • Mooney Falls
    by Christophe Testi

    US$6.41–US$171.00

Mooney Falls is a waterfall on Havasu Creek, in the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Arizona, near the town of Supai in the Havasupai Indian Reservation. It is named after prospector D. W. “James” Mooney who fell to his death trying to cross the canyon on a homemade ladder. Local Native Americans called it “Hualapai” or “Hualpai” falls. It is located about 1 kilometre downstream (i.e. to the north) of Havasu Falls, just past the large campground that lies between the two falls. Mooney Falls is accessible with considerable difficulty down a very steep trail (including two rock tunnels) that has been cut into the rock. Chains and a ladder at the bottom assist, but spray from the falls coats the dust-covered rock with water and reddish mud that makes climbing treacherous.

The universe was in darkness; with water everywhere, there was no glimmer of dawn, no clearness, no light. And He began by saying these words, that He might cease from being inactive: ‘Darkness, become a light possessing darkness.’ And at once Light appeared.” `Io then looked to the waters which compassed Him about and spake a forth time, saying, ‘ye Waters of Taikama, be ye separate. Heaven be formed.’ Then the sky became suspended. ‘Bring forth thou Tupuhoronuku.’ And at once the moving earth lay stretched abroad. ” (ancient chant of Ngati Kahungunu Maori)

Sunrise over Fes, Morocco. Adhan (Athaan) is the Islamic call to prayer, recited by the muezzin. The root of the word is ʼḏn “to permit”, and another derivative of this word is uḏun, meaning “ear.” This is the minaret of Kairouyine mosque in Fes. The university which is attached, was founded in 859AD and ‘is considered the oldest continuously operating institution of higher learning in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records.’ (Care of Wikipedia) / Adhan I

  • High on windswept ridges in the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in eastern California’s White Mountains live the planet’s oldest known living organisms – the ancient Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva). Some of these trees were already growing when the Egyptians built the pyramids over 4000 years ago. The oldest known Bristlecone Pine is “Methuselah”. This gnarled and twisted tree is about 4,800 years old – and still able to reproduce. But only a few bristlecones have been able to grow to such incredibly old ages, survived ultraviolet rays, extreme cold, wind, and aridity in this harsh environment between the Eastern Sierra Nevada and Death Valley in an elevation between 10,000 and 11,000 feet (3,048 and 3,354 meters) above sea level. These old trees, the oldest living things on earth, 2800 years older than Christ, are now strictly protected by law and guarded carefully. Thank you for being my friend Card / Laminated Print / Please note: RedBubble automatically re-sharpens and adds contrast to uploaded images for web display. That’s why some originally properly exposed, sharp thumbnails and large previews appear too harsh and too sharp. / Printed Photographs are properly exposed and sharpened!

  • Bamboo Sprig
    by RandyJayBraun

    US$4.28–US$114.00

Deep in the dark, silent bamboo forest, the mood can be entirely spooky. The bamboo stalks lurk around you, blocking out nearly all light. When I see a new sprig of green leaves deep in the dark forest, the feeling is happy and almost a relief - a spot of light and color - the haunted feeling disappears, at least for a moment.
