ИГРА (pronounced IGRA) means ‘PLAY’ in Russian…. / ...and after a hard day at work, these Russian women play hard too. After many hours spent in the coal mines, there’s nothing these women enjoy more, than to dance and leap around wildly with their heavy sledgehammers. / Quite a spectacle to behold. Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / / / Shoes available at zazzle ‘Matryoshka Series’ Card by Karin Taylor Matryoshka on Holiday Purple & Single, is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper using ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic paint. I would describe it as having strong design aspects. Matryoshka on Hols was born from my passion for vintage wooden dolls…I thought how cute it would be to dress her in some holiday gear, especially since Russia is usually a very cold place from what I hear…it’s nice to give her a break in a nice warm sunny climate such as Australia :D and and I’ve taken the liberty of giving her a bit of gypsy flair! Maybe she’ll like Australia and decide to stay here? / Maybe she’ll like wearing this bikini and buy some more in different colours? / Maybe she’ll pop up again somewhere when you least expect it, in a vivid array of daring colours! / or…maybe she’ll go home to Russia and we’ll see her in some traditional dress sometime? We’ll just have to wait n see! She could pop up anywhere, any time hehe

Matryoshka Family in the Pink is a pop-art collaboration of some fine art and digital manipulation. The original matryoshka on holiday was created using a mix of media including ink pastel acrylic and charcoal on canvas textured paper. I cut the doll herself out of the painting and gave her a new background in photoshop just repeating the same matryoshka and making smaller replicas of her !

A commisioned job from the model Nuala who was in a dance group. We simply dragged a lot of stuff with us and messed around to see what might come out of it. Nuala brought this great fake fur coat with her and I had a Russian army hat I had bought in Prague, combined with the ridiculous palm trees that line much of Irelands coast we had our portrait of an Irish girl. Taken on a Nikon F301 in 1992 or 3 along the Coast Road Raheny Dublin. sold as matted print to a non rb member on rb

russian – information provided by wikipedia:
Russian icon painting was inherited from the art of the BRITTANYByzantine churches, and it soon became an offshoot version of the mosaic and fresco traditions. Icon paintings in Russia attempted to help people with their prayers without idolizing the figure in the painting. The most comprehensive collection of Icon art is found at the Tretyakov Gallery. Rather than being a mere imitation, Russian icons had a peculiar style and masters such as Andrei Rublev took the icon to new heights.RedBubble is a great place to find art, design, photos and writing from over 80,000 talented people.
