I wish I had wings so that I could fly like an eagle to the highest points upon the earth and dip into the lowest realms to see all the beauty of this magnificent world we live in. Collaboration with Marvin Collins image of a Hawk “Surveying His Domain” and my image “Grand Canyon – Afternoon”. The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided gorge carved by the Colorado River in the United States state of Arizona. It is largely contained within the Grand Canyon National Park — one of the first national parks in the United States. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For those of you who are familiar with Marvin’s magnificent world of birds, this is a collaboration with one of my favorites of Marvin’s combined with on of my Grand Canyon captures. I am in awe of Marvin’s wonderful bird photography. I wanted to see this one against a backdrop that would enhance both images for a perfect marriage of photographic work of two artist’s images captured in Arizona, USA. Marvin’s fabulous image…Shot in Marana AZ “Surveying His Domain” I combined Marvin’s image with my Grand Canyon – Afternoon shot taken a few months ago on my first trip ever to see this wonderful natural wonder of the world “Grand Canyon – Afternoon” I first enhanced the Grand Canyon with Photomatix HDR. Then I used Photoshop CS3 and copied Marvin’s image of the Hawk onto the clipboard and pasted it into the Canyon image. Once I had moved the Hawk where I wanted it in the image, I merged the two. Next, I used Micrografx to clean up the edges where the two images were merged. Finally, I used Micrografx Lighting effects to enhance and bring out the image of the Hawk for a more dramatic final effect. After you pass the General Store, the bank and the Old Red House on the main street entering into Chloride, Arizona you may have developed an appetite and be looking for a place to grab some grub. If so, then you will just make a right turn on 2nd street where you will find Yesterdays Restaurant. Yesterdays has great food and will welcome you with warm country hospitality. There is plenty of seating and some wonderful murals on the walls providing a perfect old west atmosphere. Live entertainment can be found 5 nights a week, and the performers a top of the line. Park your car or hitch your horse out front. Just open the door and walk right in. Where is this? Chloride-Arizona is a very scarcely-populated town, but 20,000 tourists around the world come every year, stopping at the Visitor Center in the Mine Shaft Market, where shop owners sell jewelry and antiques. Chloride is the oldest mining town in Arizona. Silver built it. Lead and zinc sustained it. It has now become a tourist attraction to those seeking a taste of yesterday and looking to take home some treasure of their own. SOME EVENTS and INFORMATION: Old Miner’s Day / Old Miner’s Day commences the last Saturday in June and is the biggest event of the year for Chloride. Festivities commemorate mining days when Chloride was the silver mining capitol of Arizona. No one is sure of the exact number of years this occasion has taken place, but rumors say over 100 years. A large parade, mock gunfights, a huge number of vendors hawking their wares, pie baking contests, great food and nice trophies are the norm. Arts and Crafts Fair / The last Saturday in October is reserved for the annual Arts and Crafts Fair sponsored by the Chloride Historical Society. Chloride boasts a variety of artists, some famous and others not-so-famous, who sell their works of art along the streets of town. Tremendous bargains for fine artwork, jewelry and crafts are available for all. Chloride loves to welcome visitors. They have an official Arizona Tourist Information center at the Chamber of Commerce office. They’re proud to show visitors what they’ve got—ghost town buildings and modern shops, yard art and painted boulders, good food and cold beer, a 125-year-old cemetery probably unlike any you’ve ever seen, and a lot of friendly people (the live ones!). / Take a trip out and see. They’re just four miles off Highway 93 at mile marker 53. They’ll be glad to say “Howdy!” And they promise—it’s worth the detour. Chloride has a small RV park and overnight RV parking. While visiting the Grand Canyon, I entered a place called The Watch Tower. I was too much of a sissy to climb to the top. Waiting below while my husband and son made the climb, I looked up to see this marvelous ceiling filled with what I thought were Petroglyphs (carvings in stone) but realized that they were in fact Pictographs (paintings on stone). The symbolism is from the prehistoric art of native american peoples. Each symbol represents the spirit of who created them. As I snapped away on my camera, I was awed by the colors and textures. This piece is an abstract of what I photographed. Later, I will upload the original image that inspired me. I hope you enjoy this one.

Once inside Yesterdays Restaurant you will notice the walls have several beautiful paintings which enhance the atmosphere of the old west. Art lovers will enjoy the wonderful paintings of Walter Olds. Painted originally for the Desert Inn Hotel in Las Vegas, these beautiful murals depicting a saloon in the old west now reside at Yesterdays Restaurant. This is only a small section from a much larger painting. The Desert Inn hotel, once owned by Howard Hughes, was considered a second home to many famous faces. In the 1960s, the hotel begin to undergo major renovations to compete with newer hotels such as the Sahara and Sands resorts. The hotel then closed for business in August of 2000. The owner of Yesterdays Restaurant wisely purchased these beautiful paiintings from the sale of items resulting from the closure of the Desert Inn hotel. Examining the paiinting closely, I noticed the spirit of the characters depicted so true to nature. The detail of the saloon girl with one arm around the cowboy and one hand in his pocket is a marvelous touch of genius. Taos Pueblo, located in Taos NM USA is still occupied by Native Americans. They live in the adobe structures, still bake bread in Kiva ovens, and throw lovely pottery. It’s also a big tourist attraction, where many go to take pictures. Recently they built a casino to help fund the community. This majestic native american agreed to pose for my picture. I think he must be a chief from his regal stance. Anyway, if you get a chance to visit Taos, definately make a stop, there are lovely shops of hand made crafts from jewerly, to musical instruments, to pottery and paintings.

“The Blue Door” is a familiar sight in New Mexico against the warm terracotta tones of adobe walls. Hollyhocks add a beautiful touch of color during the summer.

Once you have entered into the door of Yesterdays Restaurant and chosen a seat, you may notice a couple at the bar. This would be Jeff and Michelle (who’s stage names are Dillon and Lilly). These two delightful guests are members of the Longcoats and Lace gunfighter group and Western Entertainers of Chloride. They are local residents who also take part in the portrayal of the Wild West along with many others including The Wild Roses of Chloride which just happens to be America’s only female gunfight reenactors. The Longcoats and Lace portray the Wild West on the 1st and 3rd Sundays and on the 5th Sunday when there is one… and The Wild Roses perform the 2nd and 4th Sundays.
