Canon 20D – 17-40mm L – 17mm – 1s – f/11 Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. I have been waiting for this kind of shot for a long time. The storms were fierce with a ton of rain last night. I decided to take of work and spend the day at the falls near my house. I must have snapped 200 pictures today. What a great day!! I found a new toy its my infrared lens. What happens to dreams that die? / Are they reborn in other minds / nourished in more fertile ground – / do the sands that cover them / windshift / reviving them again, or are they / preserved, like dried straw flowers, / still rich in color / but sapless, too fragile now to grow?

In a place as surreal as this, its hard not to day dream. This was taken at an ancient, monastery which was destroyed by Henry the eighth once upon a time. Sort of represents what i was feeling at this time, not this exact moment but this part of my life. Stopping for a second, trying to figure out where wanted to go, how i would get there. Taking a brief moment to reflect.

Ever get the feeling that everyone’s staring at you when you get on that bus to work every morning? Well, I did (before I shed the shackles of the day job and became a freelancer at least!) and that’s what inspired this painting – commuters on the top deck, always curious to see who’s entering their domain.

Photographic based digital montage – 2007 (no 2 from series of 3 re-worked). Shot two seperate models & P/S combined them. I also draw in & enhanced part of the headpeice, the body, the dress, added a fringe to the face, hid the eyes, made the features more angular, blew up the lips, created cheekbones, reworked the branches, filtered wallpaper effects, extended the chandelier, added lacework/flower elements, desaturated the lot & added a sepia tone. Thank you to both models who wish to remain anonymous. Approximately 50 Photoshop layers. Just Sometimes (Song of Laughter and Forgetting) by Swervedriver – entered in Red Bubble ‘songmanip07 – Musical Photo Competition’. So many great entries. Regards to all for voting for this peice.
